Autism Movement Therapy is a natural strategy for individuals with autism with limited speech and language communication skills, allowing them to express themselves through music and dance while simultaneously enjoying the thrill and joy of moving their bodies while developing a sense of self-determination and independence.

Body Movement and Feedback:
Closing the Circle
April 14, 2010 - 7:00 pm
How do you meet the needs of the child who is physically capable of doing more, but lacks the sensory organization to do so on their own? It's all about feedback! If your child isn't receiving adequate feedback from their body or through their environment, movement becomes an obstacle rather than a joyful progression of development.
Come learn about whole body strategies based on a physical therapy-centered view of sensory processing for children with neurodevelopmental disabilities.
Galen Okazaki, is a pediatric physical therapist who employs unconventional and eclectic approaches to therapy and seeks out novel ways to facilitate improved movement in his patients. Grounded in the belief that there are gains to be made for every child, no matter the challenges or diagnosis, Galen prides himself on designing unique and impactful therapy programs for children and their families. He is strongly guided by the principle that as a pediatric therapist his job isn't just about treating the patient, but rather includes serving the entire family and meeting their needs as it relates to their child.
Galen has a broad knowledge base including Neuro Develomental Techniques to assist in increased trunk strength, overall balance and strengthening of his patients. Galen has also studied visceral manipulation, a gentle technique that explores how the organs, nerves, ligaments, and connective tissues of the abdomen and chest cavities can interact and can inhibit movement.
PLEASE NOTE: While this is a no fee event, SPACE IS ABSOLUTELY LIMITED AND RESERVED SEATING IS NECESSARY. Workshops have become a popular event and only those on the RSVP list will be allowed entry. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Established in 1997, the Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center’s (SARRC) mission is to advance research and provide a lifetime of support for individuals with autism and their families.
SARRC undertakes self-directed research, serves as a satellite site for national and international projects and provides up-to-date information, training and assistance to families and professionals about autism.
Through integrative research, educational outreach, model programs and collaborative initiatives, SARRC sets forth, promotes and facilitates best practices for early intervention and the long-term care of individuals with ASDs.
Over the past decade, the Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center (SARRC) has worked diligently to provide quality services and support to children and families affected by autism, while searching for answers to solve the mysteries surrounding the disorder. It has been a decade of rapid growth, with ever-increasing demands to serve a burgeoning population of children being diagnosed, as well as an aging adult population living with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs).
Keeping up with the demand for services has continued to be one of SARRC’s greatest challenges. Over the past decade, SARRC has expanded its direct services to children and parents, and refined its clinical and school consultation programs. In 2009, nearly 11,000 individuals were directly impacted by SARRC services—children, adolescents and young adults with ASDs and their neurotypical peers; family members; and professionals such as teachers, therapists and medical practitioners. More than 400 SARRC volunteers donated their time, and SARRC staff conducted 250 trainings and presentations and offered services to students and educators in nearly 90 Arizona schools.
With a focus on delivering the highest-quality, evidence-based services and programs available, SARRC will continue to grow to meet the ever-increasing demands of our community.

Founded in 1908 as The Jewish Orphan’s Home of Southern California, Vista Del Mar began serving children living on the streets of Los Angeles whose parents could not care for them because of illness, poverty, or death. By placing orphaned children in an innovative cottage setting with house parents rather than the institutional environment typical of the time, Vista became known as one of the finest residential programs in the country.
Over the course of time, as societal needs changed, Vista kept pace with the changing needs of children. Branching out into areas of foster care, adoption, and the treatment of children with mental health problems, emotional problems, behavior problems, social problems, or developmental difficulties, in 2008 Vista remains one of the preeminent social service agencies serving children and their families in Southern California.
The agency maintains its fine residential program for troubled children and teens, as well as one of only three special care facilities in the State. With the addition of its divisions: Reiss Davis Child Study Center, Julia Ann Singer Center, HomeSAFE and Family Service of Santa Monica, Vista is truly one of the most comprehensive care facilities for children experiencing mental health problems, behavioral problems, emotional problems, or social problems.

Silver Horse Healing Ranch is located in Topanga Canyon, California. Sara Vaughan RPP is the founder and director of SHHR.
SHHR is an alternative experience for people who love horses but for whatever reason do not enjoy going to riding schools or rental riding facilities.
SHHR offers the opportunity for people to get to know the nature of horses, to have the experience of being part of the herd and to relate to horses in a relaxed and comfortable environment.
SHHR believes that by relating to horses from our authentic selves our heart and souls are nourished.
There are currently seven horses that facilitate the programs at SHHR. All of these horses are 'rescues', meaning that they were headed for slaughter because of outliving their use or because they were no longer wanted by their owners.
Each horse has been rehabilitated and trained to do what they do best. Whether this is teaching children about touching and grooming horses, or providing people the experience of gently riding the horses bareback.
SHHR offers other alternative opportunities for healing such as Reiki, Polarity Therapy, Cranial Sacral, Astrology and Family Constellations.
By doing business with SHHR please be aware that you are supporting the well being and lives of the horses, Diva, Laydee Lucille La Don, Silver, Ruby, Jackie, Hank and Pretty Boy.
